Do you cringe at the thought of going away with kids and having to pack all that extra luggage? I personally do not think there is a way around this especially when they are under the age of 3.
Some things to think about:
1. Think about what you take onboard for your kids.
It can be a lifesaver if you pack the right things for your travels. Great things to bring for your kids include:
- Books (keeps them engaged for 10-15minutes a time). Bring more than 2!
- Personal computers, games or interactive consoles. These can be a great calming device to keep your kid engaged, quiet and happily entertained for long periods of time.
- Puzzles, cards or fun children games. Try not bring ones that have too many pieces as they can be difficult to keep together and makes cleaning up easier.
- Spare socks, warm clothes and travel pillows always go down well.
2. If you have a choice choose flights that are at night time or around bubs sleeping time.
It sounds simple but flying out of your kids sleep routine can be the difference from an easy flight to a nightmare flight. Always carry extra formula. Some airlines do carry baby food which can also be requested as well as Kids meals. Try to maintain the same sleep routine as you do at home (e.g. books, bottle, sleep).
3. Choose family friendly resorts that have a variety of activities for the kids and family.
The resort may even have a kids club. Check out the The Rosewood Phuket which has an amazing kids club.
4. Give yourself and the family a day or 2 at your destination to just try and get the body back into local timing.
Try not to book any full on activities in the first two days of landing. Leave them open to explore and take at a slow pace. Use that time to get familiar with your surroundings. Breakfasts, lunch, walking (local guided walking tours) and exploring the local areas is always a great idea to settle in.
5. Keep to your sleep routine
Whilst most people who are on holidays want to make the most of their time away I would suggest to try to keep the same bedtimes while away that you do at home. You will have the same energy levels and have more in the tank for all the fun filled adventures you take on during the day!
